Accessible skiing at the Kaunertal Glacier: Monoski for wheelchair users
Mountain freedom without restrictions.
Thanks to the Kaunertal Glacier Road, which leads directly to the slopes and lifts, the Kaunertal Glacier is a popular ski area for people with handicaps. Barrier-free gondola lifts, specially trained staff, the barrier-free accessible glacier restaurant and much more ensure that you can reach alpine heights safely and comfortably with a wheelchair or monoski.
Here you can find out everything you need to know about disability-friendly equipment on the glacier, monoskis for wheelchair users, barrier-free accommodation and more.

What awaits monoskiers & wheelchair users on the Kaunertal Glacier
In winter, you can go down the slopes in a monoski bob, in summer enjoy the panorama of the Kaunertal Glacier Road or admire the view from high above all year round: unforgettable memories await wheelchair users who visit the Kaunertal Glacier.
In winter: Monoskiing on the Kaunertal Glacier
Skiing, snowboarding or monoskiing: the Kaunertal Glacier is an Eldorado for all winter sports enthusiasts. The extensive natural snow slopes and the almost limitless mountain world give monoskiers a feeling of freedom that can only be experienced on the glacier. The offer is completed by monoski rental and monoski courses for wheelchair users who want to try out their first turns on this sports equipment.
In summer: Kaunertal Glacier Road & Three-Country View
In summer, you drive through all the alpine altitude levels in your car and then take the Karlesjochbahn cable car up to the Italian border at 3,108 metres. Prams, wheelchairs etc. can be comfortably accommodated there. At the top, the disabled-accessible viewing platform “Dreiländerblick” offers a marvellous view of the mountains of South Tyrol and Switzerland.
Accessible Facilities on the Glacier
The “Tirol Werbung” (Tirol Tourist Board) also certifies the Kaunertal Glacier’s excellent accessibility.
But how do we actually ensure that the monoskiing and excursion area is fully accessible for the disabled? The facilities in detail:
Accessible lifts for monoskiers & wheelchair users
Whether monoski or wheelchair – the lifts on the glacier are perfectly designed to fulfil the needs of people with disabilities: Disabled parking spaces, clear markings, ground-level entrances, trained lift staff, etc.
As a world first, the valley and mountain stations of the Falginjochbahn (3,113 m) & the Weißseejochbahn (3,044 m) have even been equipped with a monobob lane (separate access with special flooring for monoskiers).
Accessible glacier restaurant
Delicious specialities, Tyrolean hospitality and a wonderful mountain view: when monoskiing on the Kaunertal Glacier, a stop at the Weißsee glacier restaurant is a “must do”. When the restaurant was renovated, the doors, toilets, lift etc. were made completely barrier-free. Our specially trained staff will also be happy to help you with any requests.
